Still Standing II

Where painted: In studio from a number of photos

Medium: Charcoal and white chalk on cream pastel paper.

Size: 16 ins x 20 ins inclusive of mount. Supplied framed under glass in a plain 1 inch black frame.

Inspiration: I’d just completed a charcoal drawing featuring a tree that was leaning badly and titled it “Still Standing”. Wondering what else I could do on the theme of Still Standing, I came up with the idea of the Midsteeple in the centre of Dumfries. It is several hundred years old and due to having been badly maintained over the years is now in such a state of disrepair that it is costing millions to restore it to its former glory. The top section of the building has been taken away for repair as there was a real danger of it falling down.
