Picture Name: Pastel Hydrangea
Where painted: In studio at home from life
Medium: Watercolour on a white ‘not’ surface paper
Size: 14in x 18in (including off-white mount supplied)
Inspiration: I was asked to paint a flower in the same no pre-drawing style of ‘Essence of Sweet Peas’ by an ex colleague. The only flowers available to me at the time were the hydrangeas growing in the gardens of the flats where I used to live. This is one of a number of different hydrangeas I painted for her to choose from. The vase didn’t work very well at first, as I like to just ‘suggest’ it very briefly after I’ve painted the flowers, but I re-visited the picture a couple of years later and think it looks better now.
