Where painted: In the small studio at The Tollbooth, Kirkcudbright, when I was exhibiting there a few years ago, working from a number of photos.

Medium: Oils on canvas-covered board.

Inspiration: When I was working in the bank, a group of us went a walk up Screel Hill, near Dalbeattie, one evening. I’d taken some photos, and used a combination of them as the basis for this picture. I was drawn to the colours and cracked texture of the rocks in the foreground, the pine trees and the distant Auchencairn Bay
