Where painted: In studio – the horses from a photo, the background imaginary

Medium: Pastel on paper

Size: 16.5 ins x 20.5 ins including mount – supplied under glass in a 1 inch wide wooden frame to tone with the foreground horse, washed over with grey.

Inspiration: I photographed the horses going up Bank Street in Dumfries on their way to take part in the annual Riding of the Marches festivities. I didn’t think the setting they were in would make a good picture, so I placed them in an imaginary rural road.
